PAE for recurrent symptoms after TURP (Feb 2021)

If you get symptoms again after TURP, this small study suggests PAE is safe and effective

Picture
The doctor in focus in the above photo is Joao M Pisco, MD from Lisbon, Portugal receiving an award for a PAE investigation he presented at the 2019 SIR meeting in Austin, TX.
Dr. Pisco was instrumental in evolving PAE from an academic curiosity to a clinical reality. Several of his papers are listed below.
Dr Pisco died at the Austin meeting, not long after this photograph was taken and just hours after he presented the paper for which he received the award.
Right up to the end he was as passionate about the benefits of PAE as he was frustrated with the urologic society in Portugal for deriding the procedure.
In my early days of performing PAE Dr Pisco and I frequently chatted by email to discuss technique and patient management.  And his 2016 paper on the long-term benefits of PAE caused me to decide to offer the procedure to patients as an alternative to surgery, not just to patients who were unfit for surgery.

All of my patients who have benefited from PAE have Dr. Pisco to thank for his lifelong effort.
